The aim of the UnderSafe project is to provide underground attractions with a novel and specifically tailored monitoring system, easy to use and maintain, for continuous and automatic monitoring of safety and environmental conditions for touristic underground attractions...
The primary market for the UnderSafe safety system is Ecotourism underground activities. "Ecotourism" (also known as ecological tourism) is responsible travel to fragile, pristine and usually protected areas that strives to be low impact and (often) limited scale. Some Touristic Underground Activities fall under the Ecotourism classification due to its characteristics.
The overall technological objective is to develop a safety system which will detect and provide early warning about a number of conditions that can pose a danger to Touristic Underground activities.
The need for innovation
The underground tourist activities are gaining relevance in our society. Gradually, more and more tourist underground activities appears (for example, in tourist caves, more than 200 are located in Europe and growing, being UK, France, Italy, and Spain the countries with the bigger number of them).
